  The City of Selma is honored to present to our citizens the Community Outreach Department – a municipal government department created to visit citizens in their homes and neighborhoods to connect families with existing services offered by the city and the community partners.  By connecting families to community services, the city leaders hope to build trust between local government and the citizens.

       The city leaders recognize that many citizens do not trust their government.  This is true at the national, state, and local levels.  Community Outreach is determined to change this paradigm within the community.  One goal is to increase citizen trust in city government by taking city government out of city hall and taking it into the community.  Community Liaisons and Police Officers will reach out to the citizens in their home, on the corner, or in their backyard.  They will greet them, talk to them, and if a service exists that meets their need, Community Outreach will connect them with that service.  This new strategy is called TRUSTBuild (Teaming to Restore Unity, Safety and Trust).

       Community Outreach is committed to working hard each day, reaching out to the citizens, to serve them.  Trust binds people together in relationships and with trust, everyone can work together to improve the quality of life for families and continue building a strong community. 

       The Community Outreach Department is an extension for social service agencies that are dedicated to helping all people in their time of need.  The collaboration with the City of Selma, community partners and faith-based agencies is essential for the success of all programs.  There is a realization that every individual has a need at any given time and we are called to serve.
