SELMA FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Selma Fire & Rescue provides fire and rescue protection to the City of Selma and the three-mile police jurisdiction. We operate out of four stations and utilize 4 engine companies, one ladder company, one rescue company, and one hazardous materials unit. We handle an average of 600 calls per year and maintain a Class 4 ISO Rating.

When fully staffed we have 57 line personnel, 4 staff personnel, and 1 secretary. We operate three shifts of personnel, which work 24 hours on duty and 48 hour off-duty.

Anyone seeking applications for Firefighter may apply at the city personnel office located on the first floor of City Hall at 222 Broad Street. You must be 19 years of age, have a valid Alabama Drivers license, and have a high school diploma or GED. Our hiring process requires each applicant to pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), written exam, background check, and physical & drug screening. Successful candidates will then be sent to a 10-week minimum standards school before being assigned to a station.
