Located at 1000 Selma Avenue, the Larry D. Striplin, Jr. Performing Art Center was part of a restoration project which encompassed almost an entire city block and included the restoration of the Walton Theater, an abandoned movie theatre that had been home to the children of Selma every Saturday afternoon during the forties and fifties.

Today the Performing Art Center hosts a variety of events that enhance the cultural aspects of Selma.  Each month features a different local artist whose works hang in the Performing Art Center; admission to the exhibit is free.

Tuesday afternoon is movie day for Selma’s Senior Citizens at the old Walton Theater.  Each Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., Senior Citizens are able to attend the screening of a different movie.  The Selma Downtown Association provides popcorn and Pepsi to moviegoers. During the summer months, movies will be shown for Selma’s children every Wednesday afternoon. The Performing Art Center is available for rent to the general public.  It is ideal for business meetings, small banquets, and workshops.
