NLC Congress Of Cities and Exposition 2007 Awards for Municipal Excellence

In an effort to provide a safe and secure community to all citizens, the City of Selma developed a strategy to build trust and promote community pride.  This community development and outreach based strategy focuses on community dysfunctions and crime. The strategy is called TRUSTBuild.

The ultimate goal of TRUSTBuild is to restore and enhance community pride, and empower citizens to embrace new life changing possibilities. 

Since the implementation of TRUSTBuild, many citizens needs have been met through a continuous collaboration with many agencies and the City of Selma.  The Community Liaisons along with Police Officers have made contact with 4,214 citizens at their homes or in the office.  2,620 of those citizens had some type of need or request.  2,298 citizens’ needs or requests were met, representing 88% success rate for needs being met.  12% represent no resources were available at the time of referral.
