Certificate of Appropriateness To comply with this ordinance, the Certificate of Appropriateness was developed. Prior to obtaining the necessary building permits for all improvements, alterations, repairs, additions, demolition, new construction, signs or fencing within the Historic Districts of the City of Selma, an Application for Certificate of Appropriateness must be completed. An Application must also be completed for landscaping within the Historic District. There is no charge associated with this process. By City of Selma Ordinance #06-8990, the Tree Commission has the authority to regulate removal of trees throughout Selma City limits. To report a diseased or dying tree on City right-of-way, please call the Department of Planning and Development at (334)874-2111, or the Public Works Department at (334)874-2165. If the tree in question is on private property, please contact a tree service company for evaluation and removal. The Commission meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, 4:00 p.m., in the City Council Chambers For further information, please contact Patty Sexton at (334) 874-5325.
